Botched microblading — what are your options?

Written by Aileen Nguyen · Licensed & Insured Esthetician · Reviewed July 2026

You generally have three: wait for natural fading (slow and often incomplete), cover it with more pigment (adds density to a problem made of density), or progressively remove the unwanted pigment. For shape mistakes, migrated strokes or wrong colour, removal is usually the option that restores choice.

Botched microblading — what are your options?

Why cover-ups so often disappoint

A cover-up has to fight the old work: darker pigment over the mistake, density over density. When the new layer fades — and it will — the old work resurfaces underneath it, now with company. Artists see this constantly: the third or fourth layer of correction sitting in skin that only ever needed less, not more.

What removal restores

Removal doesn't take a position on what your brows should look like next. It clears the unwanted pigment progressively — shape errors, migrated strokes, wrong tones — until you're back at a clean baseline. From there, everything is possible again: living with your natural brow, better-designed new work, or nothing at all.

If the work was recent and still healing, timing matters: fresh trauma needs to settle before removal begins. Bring the date of the original work to your consultation.
